Swedish Professional Football Leagues, in collaboration with the Stockholm School of Economics Center for Sports and Business, is launching a new leadership training program aimed at the clubs in the Allsvenskan and Superettan leagues.
“In this first module, participants will learn to understand the external factors that affect both national and international football and they will acquire the toolbox needed to successfully lead and develop a competitive club organization. Virtually all elite clubs, plus the Swedish Elite Football management team, are represented in this training,” says Jeja Svensson, digital transformation at Swedish Professional Football Leagues and involved in the development of the training.
The educational program is designed for senior decision-makers in the clubs and will be conducted in several modules at Kämpasten in Sigtuna, supplemented by several digital training sessions. Topics for the first module included:
- Sustainable collaboration between club and league
- Trends in global football
- Football clubs as hybrid organizations
“We want participants, while being inspired by other leagues and clubs, including those in other sports, to understand the factors that need to be optimized for both club and league levels to develop positively over time – as well as how the strength and relevance of the league contribute to the club’s development potential,” says Martin Carlsson-Wall, Stockholm School of Economics Center for Sports and Business and responsible for the training from the Stockholm School of Economics’ side.
The first module was divided into two sessions, one for club representatives from the Allsvenskan clubs and one for club representatives from the Superettan clubs. Each club has two spots available for the training.
“The goal of the training is to ensure and develop the clubs’ own strategies, to establish a common vision of success for Swedish Professional Football Leauges and their member clubs, and of course, individual competence development for key personnel,” says Jeja Svensson.
“It was two very good days with new insights and knowledge, a good start. For me, it was also good to meet other colleagues and exchange experiences,” says Cajsa Dahlberg, CFO of IFK Norrköping and participant in the training.
The next module in the leadership training will be conducted in September and will focus on sustainable collaboration.
