The chairman of Swedish Professional Football Leagues, Simon Åström, has been proposed by the nomination committee of the Swedish Football Association (SvFF) for the position of chairman of SvFF. As a result, Swedish Professional Football League‘s nomination committee is now actively working to find a replacement.

The nomination also means that SvFF’s current chairman, Fredrik Reinfeldt, is withdrawing his candidacy, leaving Simon Åström as the sole candidate for the chairmanship of the Swedish Football Association.

“I feel proud and honored to be proposed for this role. I have great respect for the work of the nomination committee and have always felt strong support from the electorate. At the same time, it is bittersweet to leave Swedish Professional Football Leagues, but I also feel that I am leaving behind a well-functioning organization in a good place. We have a strong board and organization, and I am convinced that SEF will continue to be the strong player that the association has been in recent years. With that said, I look forward to what lies ahead at the Swedish Football Association if the annual meeting chooses to follow the nomination committee’s proposal”, says Simon Åström.

As a consequence, Swedish Professional Football League’s nomination committee is now intensifying its efforts to find a new chairman to succeed Simon Åström.

“Of course, we had already started assessing potential candidates in case this happened, but now we are stepping up our efforts and beginning a more active search for a new chairman for Swedish Professional Football Leagues,” says Dennis Andersson, chairman of Swedish Professional Football League’s nomination committee.

Swedish Professional Football League’s annual meeting will take place on Friday, March 21, while the Swedish Football Association’s annual meeting will be held the following day, Saturday, March 22.

“Congratulations, Simon, on a well-deserved appointment. We are happy for Simon and wish him all the best in his final days with us and eventually at SvFF. Of course, it is a loss to see someone like Simon leave as chairman, but I am confident that our nomination committee will find a worthy successor”, says Johan Lindvall, Secretary-General of Swedish Professional Football Leagues.

Simon Åström will continue in his role as chairman of Svensk Elitfotboll until the annual meeting on March 21.
