The very first season of Allsvenskan was played in 1924/1925. Here is the complete list of all 67 clubs that have competed in the league over its 100-year existence, from 1924 to 2024.

The clubs are presented in the order of the Allsvenskan Marathon Table standings as of the 2024 season. Each club was awarded a commemorative ball this summer in recognition of their contribution to Allsvenskan history.

1. Malmö FF

Malmö FF not only leads the all-time standings for Allsvenskan, but they are also the ultimate champions. They have played a total of 88 seasons in the top division. MFF are the reigning Swedish champions and currently lead this year’s edition of Allsvenskan as well.

2. IFK Göteborg

IFK Göteborg ranks second after Malmö FF in both the all-time standings and in the number of Swedish championship titles. “Blåvitt” had its golden era in the 1980s and 1990s, winning a total of ten league titles and two UEFA Cups. The club also played regularly in the Champions League. Their most recent league title was in 2007.

AIK has participated in nearly all 100 seasons of Allsvenskan, the most of any club. AIK is also the team that has topped the attendance league the most times in Allsvenskan.

4. IFK Norrköping

IFK Norrköping took part in the very first Allsvenskan season. The club’s prime was in the 1940s, 50s, and 60s, when “Peking” won the league title eleven times. IFK Norrköping has a total of 13 titles, with the most recent one in 2015.

5. IF Elfsborg

IF Elfsborg debuted in Allsvenskan in 1926 and played in the league until 1954, when they were relegated. The club’s peak was in the 1930s and 40s, when they won three league titles, with a core team that also represented the Swedish national team. Their most recent championship was in 2012.

6. Djurgården

Djurgården first played in Allsvenskan in the 1926/27 season and has won twelve titles across four different golden eras, one of which was in the 1910s before Allsvenskan began. The other peak periods were in the 1950s, 60s, and the 2000s. Their latest league title was in 2019.

7. Helsingborgs IF

Helsingborgs IF (HIF) was part of the inaugural Allsvenskan season in 1924 and has won the league seven times (but holds only five Swedish championship titles), with the most recent in 2011. The last time the club played in Allsvenskan was in 2022. In 1928/29, Helsingborgs IF became the first club from Skåne to win Allsvenskan.

8. Hammarby

Hammarby also participated in Allsvenskan’s first season in 1924. After some years in the shadows, “Bajen” returned to Allsvenskan in the 1950s. Since then, Hammarby has alternated between promotion and relegation. Their current stint in the league has lasted since 2015. Hammarby’s only league title so far came in 2001.

9. Halmstads BK

HBK (Halmstads BK) debuted in Allsvenskan in 1933 and has since played 56 seasons in Sweden’s top league. The club has won four Swedish championship titles, the latest in 2000, making HBK the top club in Halland.

10. Örgryte IS

ÖIS (Örgryte IS), founded in 1887, is Sweden’s oldest football club. The club has twelve championship titles, but all except one were won before Allsvenskan was established. Their only Allsvenskan league title came in 1985.

11. Örebro SK

The 1946/47 season marked Örebro SK’s first in Allsvenskan. Since then, they have completed 52 seasons in the league. In 2005, Örebro SK was forcibly relegated to Superettan because the club failed to meet financial requirements. They returned to Allsvenskan in 2007 but have been playing in Superettan again since 2022.

12. GAIS

GAIS won the very first edition of Allsvenskan in 1924/25, although this did not earn them the championship title, as Allsvenskan did not grant this status until 1930. The same happened in 1927. The club, however, has four official championship titles, the latest in 1954. GAIS has played a total of 55 Allsvenskan seasons and frequently moves up and down between leagues.

13. Kalmar FF

Kalmar FF won its only championship title in 2008, securing it in the final round with a 2-2 draw away against Halmstads BK at Örjans Vall. Their first season in Allsvenskan was 1949/50, but after relegation in 1955, they endured a 20-year wait before returning to the top division. Kalmar FF also has three Svenska Cupen titles.

14. Östers IF

League today: Superettan

Östers IF won their first championship as newcomers and debutants in Allsvenskan in 1968. Four teams finished with the same points, and Öster claimed the title on goal difference. Since then, the club from Växjö has won three more championships, in 1978, 1980, and 1981.

15. Landskrona BoIS

Landskrona BoIS was one of the twelve teams in the first Allsvenskan season in 1924. They have played 34 seasons in the top league but have yet to win a championship title. However, in 1972, BoIS did win the Svenska Cupen.

16. Degerfors IF

Degerfors made their Allsvenskan debut in 1938. Their best league finish was second place, achieved in both 1941 and 1963. In total, this small industrial club has played 32 seasons in Allsvenskan, with the most recent season being in 2023.

17. BK Häcken

BK Häcken, the club from Hisingen, has played in Allsvenskan since 2009 and won their first and only championship as recently as 2022. Their first Allsvenskan season was in 1983.

18. Åtvidabergs FF

Åtvidabergs FF, an industrial club with 20 Allsvenskan seasons behind them, debuted in 1951 and has two championship titles (1972 and 1973). The club achieved great success in Europe in the 1960s and has been home to many Swedish national players. Their last Allsvenskan season was in 2015. Today, Åtvidabergs FF plays in Division 2.

19. Sandvikens IF

Sandvikens IF is the club in Norrland with the most seasons in Sweden’s top division, the last being in 1961. When SIF earned promotion to Superettan for the 2024 season, it marked their return to the second-highest league after 32 years.

20. Trelleborgs FF

Trelleborgs FF debuted in Allsvenskan in 1985. Their best season was in 1992, when they finished third. In 1994, Trelleborgs FF competed in the UEFA Cup, where they defeated English team Blackburn Rovers. Their most recent season in Allsvenskan was in 2018.

21. GIF Sundsvall

GIF Sundsvall opened the so-called “Norrland Window” in 1965 when they debuted in Allsvenskan, becoming the first team north of Gästrikland to play in the league. Their best finish in Allsvenskan was in 1988 when they placed fifth. Their most recent season in Allsvenskan was in 2022.

22. IK Brage

IK Brage played their first Allsvenskan season in 1937, with their best period during the 1980s, which also included UEFA Cup play. Their last Allsvenskan season was in 1993.

23. IK Sleipner

The Norrköping club IK Sleipner has played 16 Allsvenskan seasons, including the very first season in 1924/25. In 1937/38, they won Allsvenskan, taking their first and only championship title. The legendary Nils Liedholm also played for Sleipner. Today, IK Sleipner competes in Division 2.

24. Gefle IF

Gefle IF debuted in Allsvenskan in the 1933/34 season, totaling two seasons in the top league before being relegated. Almost 50 years later, in 1983, they returned for a third season in the league. Between 2004 and 2016, Gefle had twelve consecutive seasons in Allsvenskan, with their last season there in 2016.

25. Mjällby AIF

Mjällby AIF debuted in Allsvenskan in 1980. Since then, the club has moved up and down the divisions, and they currently play in Allsvenskan. Their best league finish is fifth place in 2020.

26. IFK Malmö

IFK Malmö, known as the “Canaries,” has played 13 Allsvenskan seasons, with a best finish of runner-up. In 1960, they reached the quarterfinals of the European Cup, today’s Champions League. Currently, IFK Malmö plays in Division 3.

27. IFK Eskilstuna

IFK Eskilstuna has played 14 Allsvenskan seasons, including the very first season in 1924/25. In fact, the very first Allsvenskan match took place at Tunavallen, where IFK Eskilstuna faced IK Sleipner on August 3, 1924. Their best finish was fifth place. Today, IFK Eskilstuna competes in Division 2.

28. IK Sirius

Uppsala’s IK Sirius debuted in Allsvenskan in 1969 but struggled to establish themselves, with only two more seasons in the top division during the 1970s. It took until 2017 for Sirius to return to Allsvenskan, where they have stayed since.

29. Jönköpings Södra IF

Jönköpings Södra IF (J-Södra) has played 12 Allsvenskan seasons, starting in 1945 and most recently in 2017. Their home games are at the scenic Stadsparksvallen. When they returned to Allsvenskan in 2015, it was after a 46-year absence. As of 2024, they play in Ettan Södra.

30. Västra Frölunda IF

League today: Division 2

Västra Frölunda IF has played ten Allsvenskan seasons, with the most recent in 2000. In 1995, their striker Niklas Skoog won the league’s top scorer award, and the club finished fifth that year, their best season. Today, Västra Frölunda IF plays in Division 2.

31. IS Halmia

IS Halmia from Halmstad has played 11 Allsvenskan seasons, with the last in 1979. Like Halmstads BK, they play at Örjans Vall and were the first club from Halland to play in Allsvenskan, debuting in 1932. Their best finish was seventh place, and they now play in Division 3.

32. Östersunds FK

Östersunds FK (ÖFK) debuted in Allsvenskan as recently as 2016 and quickly became a strong team. In 2017, they were the first club from Norrland to win the Svenska Cupen, and they also became the first Swedish club to reach the knockout stages of the UEFA Europa League. Since 2021, ÖFK has been in Superettan.

33. Gårda BK

Gårda BK played in Allsvenskan from 1935 to 1943. One of their most famous players is Gunnar Gren, who started his career with Gårda BK. Today, they play in Division 4.

34. IF Brommapojkarna

Brommapojkarna (BP) has only played eight Allsvenskan seasons, despite producing many talented players. Their first season was in 2006, and they have moved between divisions, now competing in Allsvenskan for a second consecutive season.

35. IFK Sundsvall

IFK Sundsvall played five Allsvenskan seasons in the 1970s and 1980s, with their last in 1981. Their best finish was seventh place in 1980. Currently, IFK Sundsvall plays in Division 4.

Varbergs BoIS debuted in Allsvenskan in 2020, with four consecutive seasons before being relegated to Superettan for the current season. Their best finish was tenth place in 2021.

37. Falkenbergs FF

Known as “The Team by the Sea,” Falkenbergs FF has played five Allsvenskan seasons, the last in 2020. They made their Allsvenskan debut in 2013 after ten consecutive seasons in Superettan. The club has developed many Swedish national players, such as Pär Zetterberg, Gustaf Nilsson, Niclas Eliasson, and Jesper Karlsson. Since 2022, they play in Ettan Södra.

38. Västerås SK

Västerås SK (VSK) has had four Allsvenskan stints. The first was in 1955, followed by seasons in 1978 and 1997. In 2024, VSK makes their fourth return to Allsvenskan.

39. IFK Värnamo

IFK Värnamo debuted in Allsvenskan in 2022 and is now in their third season in the top division. In their first two seasons, they finished 10th and 5th.

40. Syrianska FC

Founded in 1977, Syrianska FC boasts three Allsvenskan seasons, the most recent in 2013. They first reached Allsvenskan in 2010, winning an award for the biggest sports achievement of the year in Södertälje. After three seasons in Allsvenskan, they moved to Superettan in 2014. Today, Syrianska FC competes in Division 2.

41. Råå IF

League today: Division 4

The club from Helsingborg debuted in Allsvenskan in the 1950/1951 season. Their debut was a success, winning the silver medal, including a 2-0 victory against Djurgården at Stockholm Stadium, watched by nearly 20,000 spectators. The 1951/1952 season was tougher for Råå IF, ending in relegation. These remain the only two Allsvenskan seasons for the club, which now plays in Division 4.

42. Ljungskile SK

League today: Ettan Södra

Founded in 1926, Ljungskile SK had two seasons in Allsvenskan. Between 1990 and 1997, the club climbed from Division 5 to Allsvenskan, but its first season ended in relegation to Superettan. In 2008, Ljungskile returned, only to be relegated again after a playoff with IF Brommapojkarna. Today, they play in Ettan Södra.

43. AFC Eskilstuna

In 2017, AFC moved from Solna to Eskilstuna for their first Allsvenskan season, which ended in relegation. They returned in 2019, but again stayed only a year. After some years in Superettan, AFC Eskilstuna now competes in Ettan Norra.

44. Westermalms IF

Founded in 1902 in Stockholm’s Kungsholmen district, Westermalms IP played in Allsvenskan during the 1926/1927 and 1928/1929 seasons, averaging 9,000 spectators per match. The club has produced seven Swedish national team players and now plays in Division 6.

45. Umeå FC

Umeå FC had its only Allsvenskan season in 1996, exiting after a playoff with Ljungskile SK. They came close again in 1998 but lost a qualification match against Örgryte IS.

46. IFK Uddevalla

IFK Uddevalla, founded in 1905, played two Allsvenskan seasons (1925/1926 and 1926/1927), finishing tenth the first year and last the next. Today, they play in Division 4.

47. Hallstahammars SK

Hallstahammars SK has two Allsvenskan seasons (1931/1932 and 1938/1939). In 1931, the club had three players in the Swedish national team. They now compete in Division 5.

48. Stattena IF

Stattena IF, like Råå IF, hails from Helsingborg. They played in Allsvenskan in 1927/1928 and 1929/1930, and developed players like Anders Linderoth. Today, they compete in Division 6.

49. Motala AIF

League today: Division 2

The club had its only Allsvenskan season in 1958. A qualifying match against Örgryte in 1957 attracted over 12,000 spectators to Motala Idrottspark, but the following year saw their relegation. Today, they play in Division 2.

50. Dalkurd FF

Dalkurd FF, founded in Borlänge in 2004 and relocated to Uppsala in 2018, climbed from Division 6 to Division 1 within five seasons. They reached Allsvenskan in 2018 but stayed only one season. Today, they play in Division 2.

51. Redbergslids IK

League today: Not playing football at all today

Redbergslids IK is known primarily for handball, but their now-defunct football section had one Allsvenskan season (1930/1931) and nine seasons in Sweden’s second division. Sven Rydell, Gunnar Gren, and Karl-Alfred Jacobsson once played for the club.

52. Ludvika FFI

Ludvika FFI started its football section in 1911 and reached Allsvenskan in the 1944/1945 season, narrowly missing out on survival. They merged with IFK Ludvika in 1975, forming Ludvika FK, which now competes in Division 5.

IK Oddevold had one Allsvenskan season in 1996. They began well but faltered and were relegated. Today, they are back in Superettan, aiming to reach Allsvenskan again.
