Starting this season, the winner of Superettan will be rewarded with a prize for the club that wins the league. This was announced today at the Superettan media day in Solna.
“Every year, at least two clubs are promoted from Superettan to Allsvenskan, but until now, Superettan has lacked a physical award for the club that wins the league. We think it’s especially exciting to introduce this prize in the year that Superettan celebrates its 25th anniversary,” says Svante Samuelsson, Sporting Director at Swedish Professional Football Leagues.
The award will be a silver plate and will be presented for the first time when a league winner is crowned in the fall.
“Although two clubs earn direct promotion to Allsvenskan, we believe that winning the league deserves a prize, and now we have established one,” says Svante Samuelsson.
The Superettan award does not yet exist in physical form and has not been given a name, but it will be developed and showcased during the season well before the league concludes.
As part of Superettan’s anniversary celebrations, all previous league-winning clubs will retroactively be honored for their victories. Swedish Professional Football Leagues will also organize two anniversary rounds in June, rounds 12-13, where Superettan will be recognized and celebrated, and the clubs will pay tribute to the league’s history.
Other events related to Superettan’s 25th anniversary will be announced throughout the season.
