So far, this season of Allsvenskan and Superettan has seen a rise in the number of visitors to Swedish stadiums. After 20 rounds in both leagues, the total attendance has reached 2,105,946 visitors—an increase of over 100,000 compared to the record-breaking season of 2023.
“These are very impressive numbers and further proof of how popular the leagues and clubs are across the country,” says Ola Rydén, league manager at Swedish Professional Football Leagues.
The 2023 season resulted in new attendance records for Allsvenskan and Superettan. Together, the matches in both leagues attracted over three million visitors for the first time ever. Additionally, Allsvenskan achieved an average attendance of over 10,000 per match, something that had never happened before since the league expanded to 16 teams.
The positive trend in attendance has continued this season, and after 20 rounds in Allsvenskan and Superettan, the total number of visitors to both leagues has reached 2,105,946.
“Last season set several new attendance records, but the fact is that we’re even better off this year compared to the same point last year. We’ve never passed two million visitors so early in the season,” Rydén explains.
Allsvenskan—which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year—accounts for the majority of the more than 2.1 million stadium visits. So far this year, the centenary season has attracted 1,726,112 visitors, which corresponds to an average of 10,856 visitors per match. Compared to the same point last season, this year’s Allsvenskan has seen an increase of over 130,000 stadium visits.
“Generally speaking, the summer months tend to have slightly lower attendance figures, and given our strong position right now, we are optimistic about the fall and the final third of the season. Both leagues have close and exciting races at the top and bottom, so we hope that the trend continues and that we can celebrate new records together after the season.”
In Superettan, the attendance figures have decreased slightly compared to 2023. The total attendance after twenty rounds stands at 379,834, with an average of 2,373 per match. After the same number of rounds in 2023, the corresponding figures were 403,114 and 2,519, respectively. This season’s highest attendance in Superettan was recorded in the match between Helsingborgs IF and Landskrona BoIS (round 10), which was played in front of 12,768 visitors. The meeting between Örebro SK and Degerfors in round 7 also attracted over 12,000 people to a sold-out Behrn Arena.
– “Even though Superettan has slightly decreased compared to 2023, we can still see that this year offers many good attendance numbers. Helsingborgs IF – Landskrona BoIS and Örebro SK – Degerfors IF stand out, but we also have several other matches with attendance figures close to 7,000 – 8,000 visitors,” concludes Rydén.
