Sven-Göran Eriksson has passed away after a period of illness. The legendary coach was 76 years old. All thoughts are with “Svennis” family and loved ones.
Svennis began his coaching career at Degerfors IF before moving to IFK Göteborg. In 1982, he led “Blåvitt” to the Allsvenskan title, the Swedish Cup victory, and the UEFA Cup title.
After 1982, Svennis took over as coach of Benfica. This was followed by a long career with stops at Roma, Fiorentina, Sampdoria, and Lazio in Italy, as well as Manchester City in England. From 2001 to 2006, Svennis was the head coach of the England national team.
Svennis also took on head coaching roles with both Mexico and Ivory Coast before concluding his career in the Chinese league and with the Philippine national team.
In January 2024, it was made public that Sven-Göran Eriksson had been diagnosed with cancer. On August 26th, he passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family.
