After 10 and 8 rounds played in Allsvenskan and Superettan respectively, over one million visitors have been recorded in the stands of the country’s top two leagues. Never before have so many arena visits been noted so early in the season.
“These are incredibly strong numbers and a testament to how much Allsvenskan and Superettan engage people,” says Ola Rydén, league director at Swedish Professional Football Leagues.

The 2023 season resulted in new attendance records for Allsvenskan and Superettan. Together, the matches in both leagues attracted over three million visitors for the first time ever. Additionally, Allsvenskan achieved an average attendance of over 10,000 visitors per match, something that has never happened since the league expanded to 16 teams. The positive attendance trend has continued this season, and after 10 rounds in Allsvenskan and 8 rounds in Superettan, the total attendance for both leagues stands at 1,009,096 visitors.

“Reaching over one million visitors this early in the season is something we could only dream of a few years ago. Since then, our leagues have grown in popularity while clubs have made significant strides in attracting audiences. It’s particularly gratifying that the positive attendance development is seen across the entire country and not just limited to metropolitan areas,” Rydén continues.

Of the just over one million visitors, Allsvenskan accounts for 856,999. This figure corresponds to 10,712 visitors per match. After 10 rounds last season, the total attendance for Allsvenskan was 781,257, representing an increase of 75,742 visits so far in 2024. The highest attendance so far (44,734) was achieved at Friends Arena when AIK hosted Djurgården in round four. AIK – Västerås SK (36,602) and Hammarby – Kalmar FF (29,882) in round one are second and third on the list of the season’s highest attendances.

In Superettan, attendance figures have decreased slightly compared to 2023. The total attendance after eight rounds stands at 152,097, with an average of 2,375 per match. After the same number of rounds in 2023, the corresponding figures were 160,017 and 2,500 respectively. The highest attendance in Superettan so far this season was achieved in the match between Örebro SK and Degerfors IF, played in front of 12,312 visitors at a sold-out Behrn Arena.

“Even though Superettan has seen a slight decline compared to 2023, we can still note many impressive attendance figures this year. The match between Örebro SK and Degerfors IF stands out, but we also have several other matches with attendance figures around and above 6,000 visitors. Both Helsingborgs IF and Örebro SK have an average attendance of over 6,000 visitors for their four home matches, which is very impressive,” concludes Rydén.
